Rest In Power Bill Nunn aka Radio Raheem!

Today a great actor and human being has passed away. Bill Nunn, better known as Radio Raheem (for his role in Spike Lee's 1989 film, Do The Right Thing), has passed away.

Radio Raheem was a crowd favorite when the film first appeared in theatres and in homes across the Globe. Personally, my favorite character was the DJ, but Nunn's role as Radio Raheem was clearly the stand out performance given he didn't have as heavy of a role as some of the other major and minor characters.

Today i'd like to celebrate the Life and Career of Bill Nunn and say that the Spirit of Radio Raheem, a character he filled with unflinching power and Life, lives On.

Rest In Power, Bill Nunn!

Raashan Ahmad / DJ Kayote "Mary and James" 12" Mix Serpent City Records 2017

Published on Sep 23, 2016Now based in New Mexico, Internationally known lyricist Raashan Ahmad and Albuquerque Attorney Joseph "DJ Kayote" Sullivan commemorate the trial for James Boyd and question the lack of a trial for Mary Hawkes, both killed by members of the Albuquerque Police Dept. This is not a push to convict, but rather for transparency and justice. DA Kari Brandenburg once held "Special Grand Jury" proceedings in all police shooting cases. No officer was ever indicted in any of these secret hearings which clearly violated Due Process for everyone else. Chief Judge at the time, Ted Baca, wrote a letter to Brandenburg asking what authority allowed these "special" proceedings. Finally the practice was suspended, and these days, following indictments of two APD officers in the Boyd case by Brandenburg, she openly states she is in fear for her safety. Hip Hop has lost a majority of its' social activism component over the years, but this song brings it all back; heavy baseline, drums, and social consciousness; influenced by Public Enemy, Paris, MF Doom, M. Franti, KRS One, Rakim, among many others. 12" vinyl due to be released in Nov 2016. 7" 45rpm to follow.

The Noble Eightfold Path

"All beings by nature are Buddha, as ice by nature is water. How sad that people ignore the near and search for truth afar like someone in the midst of water crying out for thirst...Truly, is anything missing now? Nirvana is right here, before our eyes; this very place is pure Lotus Land; this very body, the Buddha." - Hakuin Zenji

Between Two Ferns: Hillary Clinton and Zach Galifianakis

Between Two Ferns: Hillary Clinton and Zach Galifianakis

Hillary mentions the “secret” service in the first 20 seconds of the interview. Sorry, Hillary, the service isn’t so secret when you mention them in the first sentence of your interview.

I kid, I kid. Zach Galifianakis is up to his usual antics in this interview. He doesn’t change his delivery or his style despite being a guest on Hillary Clinton’s interview with him. “Are you excited to be the first girl President?” He chides in his first question.

Hillary is candid, and well prepared for the full on attack that Zach omits on behalf of America’s white, fat and sober or drunk audiences.

Zach Galifianakis definitely needs to get out more. I’m surprised that Hillary’s see through persona actually comes off as transparent in this interview. “Don’t tell me what to say,” she commands just before Galifianakis asks her to talk about her opponent.

Kid Rock as Secretary of State would be a wise move by Trump, so good call to Galifianakis on that bit.

Hillary’s mention of the double-standard is spot on technical and strategic. Very wise move by her to use the physical and real double-standard point as her ammo for the full fledge assault on her character by Mr. Galifianakis.

White power tie? Check!
Sexual misconduct joke against Trump? Check!
Number one focus of Hillary’s presidency? Check!

All in all this interview was hilarious and uninforming, just like I like my Between Two Ferns interviews to be. Hillary held her own and stood her ground like a Champion, She wins this battle, easily.

“Why would you play a commcercial from my opponent during the middle of our interview?”
“What’s the best way to reach you?”

LOL.

Great Waves

In the early days of the Meiji era there lived a well-known wrestler called O-nami, Great Waves.
O-nami was immensely strong and knew the art of wrestling. In his private bouts he defeated even his teacher, but in public he was so bashful that his own pupils threw him.

O-nami felt he should go to a Zen master for help. Hakuju, a wandering teacher, was stopping in a little temple nearby, so O-nami went to see him and told him of his trouble.

"Great Waves is your name," the teacher advised, "so stay in this temple tonight. Imagine that you are those billows. You are no longer a wrestler who is afraid. You are those huge waves sweeping everything before them, swallowing all in their path. Do this and you will be the greatest wrestler in the land."

The teacher retired. O-nami sat in meditation trying to imagine himself as waves. He thought of many different things. Then gradually he turned more and more to the feeling of the waves. As the night advanced the waves became larger and larger. They swept away the flowers in their vases. Even the Buddha in the shrine was inundated. Before dawn the temple was nothing but the ebb and flow of an immense sea.

In the morning the teacher found O-nami meditating, a faint smile on his face. He patted the wrestler's shoulder. "Now nothing can disturb you," he said. "You are those waves. You will sweep everything before you."

The same day O-nami entered the wrestling contests and won. After that, no one in Japan was able to defeat him.

she's suicidal. my neighbor, sitting
feet out stretched on the curb, 60 degrees
shoeless, moon falling
like it's luminous
to her blindness, mumbling
something about pistacios
and can i have some. i give
her 3 and she says
thanks. she's known for
yelling at her boyfriend
like a drill sergant or
into her hat like ants. i took
mine off at the river today
up North, just a 15
minute bus ride but
i guess you could say
those bus rides are
like my vacation,
reading and looking at
all those stories on
the faces that
know midnight
too well.

i am smiling broken
tonight, all rivers in the Midwest
are eating oil driven by
the hands of Death. i'm hungry.
my nieces are tired of this shit.
i can go on, it's too easy for me to
do this. the scrape and slash of
my last spare tire and clamor
of water falls chased by
greedy hands that kill
and rape with the slightest whip.
i stand here in
my demented sorrow, sublime.
no rebellion, no war cry.
those things have been
beaten out of me
and my only resistance
is her kiss frum 3 weeks ago,
her tongue was velvet
echoing thru the lungs
of my last hope at escape.
she said, good night, baby.
i held her at the hip.

A Buddha

In Tokyo in the Meiji era there lived two prominent teachers of opposite characteristics. One, Unsho, an instructor in Shingon, kept Buddha's precepts scrupulously. He never drank intoxicants, nor did he eat after eleven o'clock in the morning. The other teacher, Tanzan, a professor of philosophy at the Imperial University, never observed the precepts. Whenever he felt like eating, he ate, and when he felt like sleeping in the daytime he slept.

One day Unsho visited Tanzan, who was drinking wine at the time, not even a drop of which is suppposed to touch the tongue of a Buddhist.

"Hello, brother," Tanzan greeted him. "Won't you have a drink?"

"I never drink!" exclaimed Unsho solemnly.

"One who does not drink is not even human," said Tanzan.

"Do you mean to call me inhuman just because I do not indulge in intoxicating liquids!" exclaimed Unsho in anger. "Then if I am not human, what am I?"

"A Buddha," answered Tanzan.

Tina and David Meltzer-Let the door stay open-1971(San Francisco,Ca,U.S.A.)

Singer Tina Meltzer and her husband, poet/singer/songwriter David Meltzer, were the main creative forces in the Serpent Power, a minor late-'60s San Francisco Bay Area psychedelic band that did one album for Vanguard Records. In 1969, the duo cut a record on their own for Vanguard, Poet Song, mixing David Meltzer's spoken poems with gentle, bittersweet psychedelic-tinged folk-rock tunes, usually sung by Tina Meltzer. Although not a major find, the album's nice enough. It's more assured -- and less derivative -- than the David Meltzer-penned folk-rock-psychedelic music on the Serpent Power's LP. Poet Song, now a rare LP, was reissued on a single-disc CD by Akarma Records that also includes the Serpent Power's self-titled album. Another Tina & David Meltzer album, Faces, came out in 1984 on Folkways.

i'm mixing my beer with orange spice tea, thinking
all epiphany and glass house. in my cage,
i guess. the suffering is near and
nigh is the void. therefore i sit
with my legs crossed like a
backwards Buddha yelling at
the television set. something
about first down or i want
that spatula! every prayer
i said today is swept up
in the down trodden victory
of making it out of bed
with one breath, alive.
there's one candle
on the burning night
stand and a million
brilliant Death tolls
on my bridgeless teeth,
chattering disbelief and
makeshift yesterdays
i say i learn frum. Nobody
knows nobody. i know
nothing of this but
what i keep for myself.
the day isn't done until
the sex on the mattress
is flipped frum these
four walls. it's gone.
All of it.

Not Far from Buddhahood

A university student while visiting Gasan asked him: "Have you ever read the Christian Bible?"
"No, read it to me," said Gasan.

The student opened the Bible and read from St. Matthew: "And why take ye thought for rainment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these... Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself."

Gasan said: "Whoever uttered those words I consider an enlightened man."

The student continued reading: "Ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened."

Gasan remarked: "That is excellent. Whoever said that is not far from Buddhahood."

it didn't start with Jesus
it started with atoms
and minerals
and Oceanic longing
and the feeling i get
and the distaste
and the tears
and salt
of the Earth, when it was flat
and dreams be awakenings
and my dreams keep me
close
for all the scars that won't heal
her eyes of saphire.
seen more than Mine.
and Mary was a virgin
napping in vineyards
and trekking like Spotted Minds
and Spok was still hard to find
and my lips felt the pain
when i uttered mischeif
of a last night's kiss
it sort of drips.
the eclipse's echo
burning into my young tongue
it felt good
at first
the thirst gets higher
the thirst gets flyer
and my wings
on the way down
serraded
frum the neck tie
frum the blemish
that is mine
frum the marinara
of your skull
as it leaks
into the puddles
of mine Light.
the shadow, i joust
unravelled, just a dance
a way
frum the Source
which i read
as your eyes
every time.

8:27am
days begin in the blackened ink
of anew'd hope
renewed smoke
trembling towards everything The Ocean
could not take
last night
the last Light caress'd
the lamp shades grown
tired with quickening remorse
the berries smell good
this morning, i still at The Light
i wish i could.
out of the depths of unrecorded laughter
retired frum the sinews of an
empty grace
it gets thicker
always thicker.
the pain and laughter echoes
like a rooted dam
wishing to expose all the world's teeth
of suicidal flower pedals
we fall by the waist
tuck the chains and strap up
the belt for the work
our boots cannot do
i see a man riding a bike
in a gold wind breaker
moving very fast
and the PBR is encouraging me
frum last night's kiss
to get up and go.

Top 10 Awesome Facts About Poland

Top 10 Awesome Facts About Poland

Elevation by Daniel Wojciech

Elevation
by Daniel Wojciech
if you have
ever folded
your hands,
closed your eyes
and watched your breath
from underneath
your eye lids
then, you know
power.
if you have
ever sat
underneath
a great oak
tree, and
watched birds
flutter about
contemplating
their movements,
then, you know
strength.
i could never
declare myself
strong, tho
i know how
to declare
you strong
if you have
ever walked
the city's (any
city) streets and
didn't tip-toe
around a homeless
drunk,
then, you know
your soul.
are we living
or dying? becoming
who we actually are.
in solitude, the
answers do not
seem as clear cut,
meekness, frailty
shadows dance
with the wind,
the truth about
the sun is that
it is another
star, pulled
closer by
the fingers
of God.
are we living
or dying? becoming
our own hopes
and wishes, false
prophets will
seldom get rebuked,
while real messengers
will be
met with doubt
and fear.
the ego binds
to the mind, people
find perfection
in their burdens, shoulders
are to lean on, your
eyes are not wrong
to grow tears, your
time is fleeting,
passing you by
like a drunk driver
in the carpool lane,
your time is here
to greet you, like
an able bodied
mother parking
in the handi-capped space.
if you have ever
remembered your
dreams, after
waking in the morning
then, you know
authority.
you can
greet the silence
with rose petals,
if you search
for the stillness,
the mind will
move towards
grace.

Looking For Good Fish by Hafiz

Looking For Good Fish
By Hafiz

Why complain about life
If you are looking for good fish
And have followed some idiot
Into the middle of the copper market?

Why go crazy
If you are looking for fine silk
And you keep rubbing your hands against
Burlap and hemp sacks?

If your heart needs to touch a face
That is filled with abundance
Then why didn't you come to this
Old Man sooner?

For my cheek is the universe's cloister
And if you can make your prayers sweet enough
Tonight

Then Hafiz will lean over and offer you
All the warmth in my body
In case God is busy
Doing something else
Somewhere.

Why complain if you are looking
To quence your spirit's longing
And have followed a rat into a desert.

If your soul really needs to touch a face
That is always filled with compassion

And tenderness
Then why,

Why my dear
Did yo not come to your friend Hafiz
Sooner?

Czeslaw Milosz - A Poor Christian Looks at the Ghetto

Poem by Czeslaw Milosz titled, A Poor Christian Looks at the Ghetto.

i used to read it as "looks at his Ghetto" but perhaps that is the romantic in me.

Enjoy.

A Poor Christian Looks at the Ghetto

Bees build around red liver,
Ants build around black bone.
It has begun: the tearing, the trampling on silks,
It has begun: the breaking of glass, wood, copper, nickel, silver, foam
Of gypsum, iron sheets, violin strings, trumpets, leaves, balls, crystals.
Poof! Phosphorescent fire from yellow walls
Engulfs animal and human hair.

Bees build around the honeycomb of lungs,
Ants build around white bone.
Torn is paper, rubber, linen, leather, flax,
Fiber, fabrics, cellulose, snakeskin, wire.
The roof and the wall collapse in flame and heat seizes the foundations.
Now there is only the earth, sandy, trodden down,
With one leafless tree.

Slowly, boring a tunnel, a guardian mole makes his way,
With a small red lamp fastened to his forehead.
He touches buried bodies, counts them, pushes on,
He distinguishes human ashes by their luminous vapor,
The ashes of each man by a different part of the spectrum.
Bees build around a red trace.
Ants build around the place left by my body.

I am afraid, so afraid of the guardian mole.
He has swollen eyelids, like a Patriarch
Who has sat much in the light of candles
Reading the great book of the species.

What will I tell him, I, a Jew of the New Testament,
Waiting two thousand years for the second coming of Jesus?
My broken body will deliver me to his sight
And he will count me among the helpers of death:
The uncircumcised.

i'm back, baby!

Let me tell you what happened:

Before i went to jail, then the hospital, i deleted more than 75% of this beautiful blog.

i actually tried to delete the entire thing but it is a good thing i wasn't able to do that.

in my timid and very hurt state-of-mind, i deleted all of my posts from 2009, 2015 and 2016.

Whoops and big whoops!

Anyways, i'm back baby and how you like me now! Lol.

i promise to keep this ship running smoothly for now and into the future and if i lost any readers i do apologize.

To those who have found this blog (again) THANK YOU for your patience and i really hope you will enjoy the next chapters
of the blogging i'm about to do.

i promise to not let any other ice bergs tank this thing into the future.

Sincerely,
your captain
Wojo
